ANNOUNCEMENTS

Help Children Become Better Readers
The Diocese of Southern Ohio is sponsoring a Reading Camp for 3-4th graders from June 20-25, 2010. The goal of Reading Camp is to help children who are reluctant and struggling readers to improve literacy skills, encourage them to become more confident students and begin their life-long love of reading. The camp staff includes reading specialists, educators, camp counselors, and volunteers.

It is our hope that by the end of the week, the children have gained confidence in their reading skills because of the enjoyment and success that they have experienced at camp.

There is no cost for the camp for students. Tuition is provided by generous donations by parishioners of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio as well as by grants from corporations and foundations.

We need your help in sponsoring reluctant readers. The cost for a student to participate in the 5-day residential camp is $350. This includes Procter Summer Camp housing, varied activities including creating a play to be performed at the closing, a backpack and t-shirt, and several books to take home. More importantly, they will leave a more enthused and avid reader.

Contributions of any amount maybe mailed to 412 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202. Please indicate ‘Reading Camp’ in the memo line.

Our children are our future and we can all make a major contribution to their success.

Relay for Life
Holy Trinity has recently adopted a new challenge—Holy Trinity Relay for Life. The American Cancer Society sponsors Relay for Life to help raise funds and awareness, to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones lost, and to fight back against the disease. This year’s Relay for Life will be an all-night event in front of Millett Hall; it begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26 and ends at 9:00 a.m., Sunday, June 27. Each team is encouraged to keep at least one walker on the walkway throughout the 21-hour event.

Many ways exist to support this new adventure:

  • Sign up to walk during the Oxford Relay For Life – large sign-up sheets are in the Bishop’s Foyer and the Undercroft
  • Donate to the Holy Trinity Relay for Life team—online, in person or during the special Relay collection on June 20
  • Staff our booth at Millett; help cook and sell brats and metts from 5:00 – 7:00
  • Attend the Relay for Life as cheerleader or head coach!

We appreciate the love and caring that is consistently shown by our church community, and we look forward to your support for the 2010 Holy Trinity Relay for Life team.

Please stay tuned for more information.  You can learn more about Holy Trinity Relay for Life at www.relayforlife.org/oxford or at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=23614&pg=entry.
